The leader of the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Kenya (AIPCK), Archbishop John Baptista Mugecha has died.
Archbishop Mugecha died on Monday night at the Outspan Hospital in Nyeri where he was receiving treatment.
According to the family, the archbishop was taken to the hospital on January 4, 2017 but did not show signs of improvement despite treatment.
The Archbishop had been leading the church for more than 30 years after it split from the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa. It was headed at the time by Benjamin Kahihia, now deceased.
Parliamentary aspirant Peter Kamuthu, eulogised him as a nationalist who loved his community.
“He loved to fight for marginalised people in the community, especially in Tetu. He would speak his mind and was very generous, kind and courageous,” he said.
Nyeri woman representative aspirant Rahab Mukami said “Mugecha was a fearless man of God who was devoted to his work.”
