James Githii Mburu Biography: James Githii Mburu is a Kenyan Civil servant and the Commissioner General of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
James Mburu is a certified public account who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from Kenyatta University in 1997. He then followed this up with a Masters degree, graduating in 2012 with a Master of Science, MS, Public Policy & Analysis from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Mr. Mburu was serving as the taxman’s commissioner for Intelligence and Strategic Operations.
From May 2007 to February 2008, Mr. Mburu was the Head of Audit Policy at KRA. From March 2008 to December 2013, he moved on to become the Head of Audit at the Large Taxpayers Office. From December 2013 to March 2017, Mr. Mburu was the Head of Tax Investigation.
He has over 21 years of experience in the areas of Tax administration, Finance, Policy and Strategy development and implementation and in Training & Development. He has worked at the KRA for the last 12 years where he has Headed Tax Audit policy, Audit of large Tax payers, and Investigation functions. Currently as Commissioner of Intelligence and Strategic Operations, he is responsible for promoting ethical conduct at the Kenya Revenue Authority and in combating tax evasion through intelligence collection and management.
Prior to joining KRA, Mburu worked as technical standards officer at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, where he met his current boss and outgoing KRA Commissioner General, John Njiraini. He briefly worked at CFC bank before rejoining his former boss, who had at the time joined KRA in April 2006 as Commissioner of Domestic Taxes.
