July 12th 2015: -Kenyan actor Benson Wanjau alias Mzee Ojwang died Sunday evening on July 12th 2015 at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he had been admitted. Mzee Ojwang is said to have been suffering from Pneumonia. The actor who has played key roles in local programmes Vitimbi, Vioja Mahakami, Vituko and Kinyonga among others had disappeared from Television screens for a long time, leaving his fans questioning his whereabout.

Mzee Ojwang was born Benson Wanjau in 1937 in then Nyeri district.


Veteran TV comedian  Mzee Ojwang real name is Benson Wanjau .The stage name Ojwang’ came from a “good friend” of the comedian who upon retiring asked him not to forget him.


Benson Wanjau attended  CMS primary in Pumwani, Nairobi, and as a pupil his favourite subject was mathematics.

Mzee Ojwang worked as a technician at Mater Hospital for four years. Before then, he had worked at White Rose Dry Cleaners in Industrial Area. He started acting for Darubini on Voice of Kenya (now Kenya Broadcasting Corporation) in 1980. The programme was discontinued in 1985 when Vitimbi started airing.
